Dr Stephen Ohlrich
Dr Stephen Ohlrich, of South East Queensland, is an Australian trained Ophthalmologist with 20 years’ experience.
Having graduated medicine with honours at The University of Queensland in 1985 (MBBS (Hons), he then completed Comprehensive Ophthalmology fellowship training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 1995, gaining dual recognition with the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (RACS).
Further to this, his advanced subspecialty training in the United Kingdom included Senior Registrar training in Medical Retina and Glaucoma at the Birmingham and Midlands Eye Hospital, and a Fellowship in Oculoplastics (Eyelid and Lacrimal surgery) at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.
His current academic positions include Senior Visiting Medical Officer in Ophthalmology at Princess Alexandra Hospital (from 1995) and College of Ophthalmologists RACE examiner (from 2011). Dr Ohlrich, as a senior consultant, oversees the progress of Ophthalmology trainees as they approach their final examination. He is recognised by RANZCO as a ‘trainer of excellence’.
He strives to provide a local comprehensive ophthalmology service to the Redlands District, and has been doing so since 1995. His central workplace facility at Coorparoo, established by his father, Dr John Ohlrich in 1975, is equipped with extensive technology;
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT- Canon), Automated Visual field testing (Humphrey-Zeiss) and latest Cataract and IOL assessment (Nidek- AL Scan). A minor operating theatre suite enables the facility for Oculoplastic procedures and Intravitreal injections for Exudative Age Related Macular Degeneration and Retinal Vascular disease.
He manages surgical patients at the state-of-the-art Eye Tech Southside facility located in Upper Mt Gravatt. Because of the longstanding appointment of Dr Stephen Ohlrich at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, uninsured patients are able to benefit from subsidised intermediate cataract surgical care.
The dedicated team at Ohlrich Ophthalmology, Julie and Karen, are always available to provide further information regarding his personalised service.
